Webinars & Workshops

I love speaking about my experience and sharing what I know about becoming a children’s book author and illustrator with others!

I have talks prepared on several topics, including:

  1. Making a Great Children’s Illustration Portfolio: A guide to creating a memorable children’s illustration portfolio.

  2. Defining Your Style: A Guide to Help “Indecisive” Illustrators: I go over how to refine your style as a children’s book illustrator and the pros and cons of working in multiple styles.

  3. Calculated Risk-Taking for Authors and Illustrators: A webinar about my journey as an illustrator and how calculated risk-taking helped me transition into becoming a full-time creative.

  4. Why All Illustrators Should Write (A Webinar for Children’s Book Illustrators, and Authors too!): A talk based on my own experience joining a writing critique group as an illustrator, and how that helped me sell my first author/illustrator book at auction.

  5. How to Create Memorable and Grounded Kidlit Characters: A webinar that defines how to create memorable and shape driven characters. Pulling from my experience in getting a degree in animation to teaching as a preschool teacher.

  6. Embracing Your Weird to Make Laugh-Out-Loud (LOL) Books: A talk on creating funny books and how my experience in embracing my “weird” has helped me gain the attention of editors and art directors.

  7. Making a Book: The A-Z’s of the Book Illustration Process: I go through the entire process of illustrating a picture book in great detail, from the moment I received the manuscript from my agent, to turning in my last final to the art director.

  8. Slow Art: A Guide on How to Not Rush the Art-Making Process: A talk about my experience being a “slow” artist, how much time it takes me to finish an illustration/book, and how I’ve found slowing down can stimulate your creative mind.

Happy Creating!

Before summer ends, I thought I’d share another pattern with ya’ll ☀️ When I lived in Texas, summer was my least fav season because it was always SCORCHING. Now that I’m in the UK, I’m trying to soak up any sun I can get!
